In September 2022, Ian Dowling was awarded the Mike Kusnic Award at the Ceramic Arts Association of WA Annual Members Selective Exhibition presented at the Central Gallery, Perth Western Australia. Judge Warrick Palmateer said the winning piece "revealed a sophisticated and beautifully crafted work that demonstrated a masterful and gutsy approach to form and texture as well as function, glaze formulation and application."
